Initial Training

The initial training is conducted over 6 sessions.  The schedule for the Fall 2008 class is:

Training will be run by New Canaan and Wilton CERT.   " * " indicates class will be held in Wilton.

The 6 sessions cover:

Introduction to Disaster Preparedness

Red Cross CPR

First Aid & Emergency Medical Operations

Incident Command, Team Organization

Disaster Psychology

Terrorism & Sheltering in Place

Fire Suppression & Light Search and Rescue

 

Before Starting the Course

Participants must be registered with the New Canaan Chapter of the American Red Cross (51 Main Street, New Canaan) and read the Introduction and Unit I in the Participant Manual before attending.

Upon Completion of the Course

Participants who successfully complete the full curriculum have the opportunity to volunteer as members of New Canaan CERT and become Red Cross volunteers.  Members of New Canaan CERT are provided with a Red Cross backpack, basic disaster gear, a Town Identification Card, and can participate in additional training sessions.
