Initial Training

The initial training is conducted over 6 sessions.  As an example, the schedule for our previous class was:

Training run by New Canaan and Wilton CERT. 

The 6 sessions cover:

Introduction to Disaster Preparedness

Red Cross CPR

First Aid & Emergency Medical Operations

Incident Command, Team Organization

Disaster Psychology

Terrorism & Sheltering in Place

Fire Suppression & Light Search and Rescue

 

Before Starting the Course

Participants must registered with the CT Regional Chapter of the American Red Cross in New Canaan and read the Introduction and Unit I in the Participant Manual before attending.

Upon Completion of the Course

Participants who successfully complete the full curriculum have the opportunity to volunteer as members of New Canaan CERT and become Red Cross volunteers.  Members of New Canaan CERT are provided with a Red Cross backpack, basic disaster gear, a Town Identification Card, and can participate in additional training sessions.
